The National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) is pleased to announce the new Reducing Poverty through Early Intervention and Occupational Rehabilitation Initiative.
What is the Reducing Poverty Initiative?
The Reducing Poverty through Early Intervention and Occupational Rehabilitation Initiative aims to support individuals who have acquired a physical or mental health impairment and their employers in the return-to-work journey. Participants will be connected to a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) for support in the process.
The program is completely voluntary, meaning an individual can withdraw at any time.

Who can access the program?
- Individuals who have little or no support from other resources and are off work due to injury or illness. For more information, please click the tab: Eligibility For Individuals

- Employers seeking practical solutions for accommodations for disabled employees to return to work. For more information, please click the tab: Solutions for Employers
Where can the program be accessed?
The Reducing Poverty through Early Intervention and Occupational Rehabilitation Initiative pilot program will be available in the following four British Columbia communities:
- Prince George
- Kelowna
- Nanaimo and region
- Vancouver
What should I expect from the Initiative?
Step One:
- Application: You can apply to the program by filling out a short application form, linked here.
- Initial Phone Call: Our Senior Client Services Assistant will follow-up within 2 working days for an initial conversation.
- Referral: Once confirmed as eligible, you will be referred to a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
Step Two:
- Assessment: The CDMP will work with you in determining your unique employment-related strengths and needs, with the guidance of health care professionals.
- Planning: The CDMP will work with you to develop your individualized return-to-work plan.
- On-going Support: The CDMP will actively support you as you return to work, and will participate in assisting you to access needed supports for follow-up.
The CDMP will facilitate access to supports which may include:
- Health treatments, including but not limited to physical therapy, occupational therapy, mental health therapy, etc.
- On-the-job aids or adaptations
- Ergonomic supports
- Training and education
- And many more creative and practical solutions!
